Mail from India

Yesterday the package arrived.. I had been waitig for it so eagerly! this instrument, that came from India to me (Thank you Robert!!) is a Sunadamala Lahara, and is a practise aid for tabla players and... Kathak dancers. It is a metronome, and you have not only the beats, but also a simple melody (lahara) over a beat circle (taal).
So I hope to improve my footwork (tatkar) with much practice and also my students will benefit from this new instrument, which gives the rhythm much more precisely than me ;-)

  1. Hi Isabella -- does your Lahara have a "sync out" port on it? I was wondering if I could get a wav recording of the output of that port to reverse engineer how it syncs with other radel equipment…

  2. Hi, yes, it has a sync out port. But I have no idea how to use it.. I use the Lahara only for practising...

  3. Yea, I was wondering if you could just plug an audio cord into the sync port and make a few seconds recording so I can reverse engineering the signal…

  4. Hi, I'd love to, but I do not have such a chord, I'm sorry... Maybe Robert from Tarang Indian Instruments can help you.

  5. Really? There's nothing magic about it. It is merely just a cable with a headphone jacks on each end. http://www.education.purdue.edu/edit/connectors/eighth_inch_stereo_plug.JPG I'm sorry to be a pain in this butt; I'm having so much trouble finding anyone in the west with this piece of gear.
